Waiting on God

They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. Isaiah 40:31. Waiting is not a discipline humans naturally gravitate to. We are rather impatient creatures aren’t we? Allow me to share a refreshing revelation that will cause you to experience waiting on the Lord in a completely new way.

In our travels we dine in restaurants nearly every day. Some are better than others. What separates the good ones from the I-won’t-eat-hear-again list. Good food? Obviously! But there is something else that will make you want to return. Good service.

A good waitress is a rare gem these days. She will enhance your dining to a memorable experience. She anticipates your every need, some even before you have to ask. She’ll make you feel like you are her only customer. Your glass will always be filled. Your food will be piping hot, and a good waitress will almost always entice you to some scrumptious dessert. After the meal you’ll want to reward her with a tip greater than the acceptable standard because she deserved it!

In our worship, we become waiters to the most important and distinguished Guest of Honor: God Almighty. He steps into our establishment with wonderful expectations. When He comes everything else fades away. Our sole purpose is to wait on Him! And we want to be the best we can be in His presence. We want to put a smile of satisfaction on His face. We want to serve Him our best sacrifice of praise in the best possible way. We dare not ignore Him. Our eyes are on His every move. Whatever He wants He gets! We are quick to respond, making sure He can easily get our attention. We are here to bless Him and we are blessed by His presence. We’ve come with an apron and not a bib. We want to serve before we are served.

What a wonderful thought. The Lord inhabits the praises of His people! He steps into our lives. What will He find next time we worship? Will you make it impossible for Him not to return? How will your waiting be?

Great service is always greatly rewarded! God is a great Tipper! Yes, He is a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. His tip is way beyond the expected norm! Devotion warrants reward!

So let’s always remember worship is the act of waiting; service to the King of kings. Let’s never lack in effort, posture, interest or passion. Let’s show our Lord that we are delighted to have Him in our lives. Let’s pursue Him in Spirit and in truth! Now is the time! Wait on Him.
