Our Position in Prayer
by Sharon Swanepoel

Almost every prayer offered contains the words "in the Name of Jesus". We use these words so many times, but do we really know what we say when we use them? Is it simply a closing statement to our petitions to God? Where does it come from? What do these words really mean? At a recent morning meeting dedicated to prayer, Sharon and I spoke about our position in prayer. This fresh revelation produced powerful results and revolutionized the prayer lives of God's people. Prayer is much more than a combination of words we speak. When we speak of our position in prayer we do not refer to kneeling, standing or even closing our eyes when we pray. These things are secondary. Our position in prayer speaks primarily of a spiritual posture before the presence of God. A spiritual place of power and intimacy.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the [consistently] righteous man [upright and in right standing with God] runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong. Prov. 18:10 AMP

As children of God, we have been repositioned to receive all that Heaven has. Success is within our reach. Blessings at our fingertips. Life on our lips, grace in our hearts and power in our hands. We've been transformed from miserable failures to glorious success stories at the hand of God. The Name of the Lord is a fortress to those in right standing with Him. We run into it and revel in the safety it brings.

You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed you [I have planted you], that you might go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit may be lasting [that it may remain, abide], so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name [as presenting all that I AM], He may give it to you. (John 15:16 AMP)

We pray "in the Name of Jesus". We never address our situation from within the circumstances we face. We run into the Fortress the Lord provided for us and from the safety and security the Lord brings we pray. The Lord Himself said that if we live in Him and He in us, we will bear much fruit. (John 15:5) What a wonderful thought! When we step into the realm of biblical prayer we are transported to a safe place to pray with God's perspective. We are lifted into the secret place of the Most High where we dwell under the shadow of the Almighty. (Ps 91:1) This makes our prayers exceptionally powerful. We do not scream from earth hoping our words reach the ears of God in heaven. No, we step into the Throne Room, in the presence of the Lord and know we have audience with the King!

How do we "run" into the name of Jesus to be safe? You see running is an accelerated way of transportation. It speaks of quick progression. Running has an urgency and intensity about it. People run usually because they flee from something or are in pursuit of something. Whether you are fleeing from a potential threat or simply in pursuit of securing your position in prayer, your faith will determine the speed by which you are transported to your place of victory.

And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. 1 John 3:22-23 NKJV
We are commanded to believe in the Name of Jesus. That means that we have to be aware of the stature of the Strong Tower and what treasures abound in it. Whatever our need might be, whatever we may ask of Him while doing what is pleasing to Him, these very things await us in the Name of Jesus. Without faith it is impossible to please the Lord. (Hebrews 11:6) Can you see how our faith provides us access to the Strong Tower. It propels us into a powerful position in prayer from where we can accurately navigate any situation successfully because we are doing it "in the Name of Jesus"!
