Recent volcanic activity in the northwest held many people captive in front of their televisions to see Mount St Helens blow off steam and ash. Amazingly the largest active volcano in Europe also erupted in Italy at the same time. Is it pure coincidence or can it be that the happenings in the natural realm of nature are connected to a deeper spiritual significance? If we look at the revealing nature of the Lord in posting signs and warnings to humanity over the ages, one will not be surprised to find within the pages of the Bible some reverences of Divine revelation through volcanic activity. In Ps 63 and Ps 97 we read of mountains melting and shaking at the presence of the Lord. The voice of the Lord has been likened to the sound of many waters and even the rolling thunder. So what is the message the Lord wants to get through to us with the sudden and simultaneous eruption of the slumbering volcanoes? There are oh so much to consider. . . Volcanoes are positioned on huge fault lines in the crust of the earth. They are found in places where the crust is weak. Places that will allow the magma to seep through to the surface. I believe the Lord targets our weaknesses with liquid Holy Ghost fire to strengthen us. During spiritual eruptions of the Holy Spirit our once weak and flat existence makes way for spontaneous mountain formations that transforms ordinary flat living to exciting, interesting mountainous terrain. Magma is molten rock that when cooled solidifies into strong rock formation. The energy captured within a volcano is immense. It takes a lot to melt solid rock or to spew polarized rock thousands of feet into the air. That reminds me of the tremendous power we have inside us as believers. The Lord said that we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on us. Unfortunately all the Church has done in recent times are to blow off steam, especially in the site of the media. The time has come for us to release more power than just steam. We have to yield to the power of the Holy Spirit to pulverize and melt the hardened areas in our lives so true change can happen in us. Volcanic eruptions are fantastic displays of power are unpredictable at best. It reminds me of revival. It erupts with a Divine suddenly and releases a tremendous manifestation of the power of God that brings forth change. Let us believe for similar volcanic eruptions in the realm of the Spirit in our lives that will change the shape of the life formations we have grown so used to.
