"God Bless You."

(Written by Dr. Rudi Swanepoel)

A young man got saved and was brimming with excitement. He so desperately wanted to share something with the church before he went home. As you might know, sometimes we just cannot put into words what the Lord has done in our lives. In his excitement he said: The first thing I am going to do when I get to heaven is to walk up to Jesus and say: “God bless you Jesus!”

“God bless you.” Do we really know what that means? Deut.28:2 says:

And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God. You are blessed! As a matter of fact, every child of God is blessed. God chose to bless you and nobody can do anything about it! The Hebrew word for blessing is berakah. The literal meaning of the root word is: to kneel down and bless. Think about it: God kneels down over the balconies of heaven reaching out to you to bless you! Wow! Blessing implies contact and closeness. You are not alone. The Bible says God is for us, who can be against us? David said Goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. (Ps 23) In Psalm 112 we read the generation of the upright shall be blessed and in Deut.28 we read we are going up and not down.

God’s blessing is not about having things in your life. It is about having a Person in your life. Thank God things are included in the blessing, but the substance of the blessing is God actively involved in your life. We can see God’s blessings in our church. Last month alone we saw over 90 people give their hearts to the Lord. We saw growth in attendance and ministries have been raised up. As a result you will see a number of people received into the membership of the church.

It is one thing to have the blessing of the Lord upon you, but yet another to have His blessings overtake you! When the latter happens, the blessing of the Lord surrounds you. You will look back at yesterday and see blessing, you will look ahead to tomorrow and see blessing. People will recognize the favor of the Lord on your life! How can I secure this kind of blessing in my life? Simply through obedience! The shortest road between two consecutive blessings is obedience. Obey the Lord in every aspect of life and blessing will surround you, overtake you and be upon you!

Next time you see someone make a prophetic declaration into his or her lives. Tell them: You are blessed! Let’s live our lives surrounded by the blessings of the Lord.
