.
1. You have a destiny! (verse 1)
Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem to fulfill His destiny on the cross of
Calvary. He was closer than ever to fulfill this destiny. Ten days before His
greatest victory and breakthrough on that cross he came through Bethphage. The
meaning of this name is “House of green figs” Place of unripe fruit!
There is a Jerusalem waiting for you. A God planned destiny that will produce
a great victory and breakthrough in you life! You are closer than ever to see
that destiny fulfilled! Jeremiah 29:11 says: For I know the plans I have for
you, says the Lord. Plans of peace and not evil to give you a hopeful future.
Your final outcome is Jerusalem, but many times just before you reach Jerusalem
you have to go through Bethphage.
2. Stuck in Frustration? (verse 2)
I am tired of not seeing the fruit of what the Word promises us! I want to see
more Healing, Deliverance, Revival and Power. John 15:4 says If you live in
Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit. The problem is many times our
spiritual fruit is green, inedible and sour! That is the Bethphage experience.
Spiritual frustration sets in. We feel like we have so little to give a dying
world. The good news is Green fruit ripens quickly! You were called to Jerusalem
so do not get stuck in Bethphage too long.
3. The Tied Donkey (verse 2)
This donkey was tied down in the place of green figs. (frustration) She never
had anything on her back before thus never reached her intended destiny! The
enemy wants to tie you down in frustration just like this donkey! He uses many
ropes: sin, sickness, depression, bitterness, hate, religion, tradition, etc.
Jesus sent his disciples to untied the donkey and bring her to Him! Out of the
place of frustration. No more stagnation, but rather a new direction and
purpose. Taking the donkey with Him to fulfill His destiny!
4. Results of Freedom (verse 3 through 10)
- The Lord needs you! (verse 3)
- You receive a new coat, mantle - type of the anointing (verse 7)
- Presence of God in your life - Jesus sat on the donkey on the clothes
(verse 7)
- Divine favor from people - the Donkey benefited from the clothes and the
branches on the road. (verse 8)
- Your life will bring glory to Jesus - People saw Jesus, not the donkey.
The Donkey was the vehicle that brought Jesus to the people. (verse 9)
- Citywide revival - the whole city was filled with excited people about
Jesus. (verse 10)
