Are you a pillar or a mere post?
The Lord gave me a powerful word for a church recently that
deals with pillars and posts that I want to share with you
here.
Scriptural Basis
When God called Jeremiah to be a prophet to the nations, one of the things He placed in Jeremiah's life was to be a pillar of iron. God placed in him the fortitude to withstand any hostile power. Jeremiah was up against it! He was young and inexperienced, unknown to most, with a call from God so great it had the potential to crush its bearer. The Lord raised up this prophetic voice to stand like a pillar to outlast kings, regimes and all evil tendencies. Jeremiah was to be a beacon of hope, a measurement of truth and a righteous pillar of strength in a morally flawed and flimsy principled culture. Jeremiah helped King Josiah with a reformation to bring the people back to God instead of flirtations with idols and false gods. His life and ministry influenced the reign of at least 6 kings. He surely stood the test of time. Today, in our society of relative morality, where boundaries are brushed aside and character bent to fit the pleasures of the heart; the Lord is once again looking for pillars of iron. Like Jeremiah of old, God is raising up a new breed of Christian, strengthened at their core, with a voice of victory to be strategically positioned throughout society as pillars set in array to carry the weight of God's Glory into the world. The time has come for the Jeremiahs of our time to rise up.
Characteristics of Pillars &
Posts
The purpose of pillars are
primarily strength and secondarily cosmetic. Pillars are
made for load-bearing first and then shaped for looks. Posts
are not made primarily for strength but for looks. Pillars
are defined by the reinforced material on their inside and
posts are fashioned to compliment existing structures. We
have an abundance of posts in this world. People who shape
the surface of their lives to fit in with their
surroundings. They're shaped according to the demands of
their peers. They are not made to stand strong but rather to
stand pretty.
Christian, you have a bigger
role to play in life. Your value far exceeds surface facades
and outer appearance. Your value comes from the core of your
spirit. You carry a strength in you that will define you. A
power placed in you through your faith in Almighty God. That
makes you a pillar and not a mere post. When posts buckle
under the pressures of life, you stand tall! When posts
crumble when the earth shakes, pillars stand their ground.
Posts often times are hollow
inside. They have no density, no fortification. Pillars on
the other hand are strength personified; power covered over.
As a pillar for God you are shaped from the inside out. Your
character is forged with the word of God, shaped by the
leading of the Holy Spirit and strengthened by your faith in
Him. You are constantly inspected for cracks and flaws and
repaired under the watchful eye of the Savior Himself.
You carry a tremendous weight of
responsibility. No, its not the cares of this world, nor the
stresses of this life, but the weight of the glory of God!
You are God's representative here on earth and your life's
sole purpose is to bring God honor and praise not
embarrassment and shame. You are here as an life-example to
others. You cannot afford to buckle under pressure. Remember
you are not a post. You were made for who you are. Your life
is more than a marvelous decoration. In fact throughout the
Bible pillars were build as monuments and memorials to
remind people of important events. You are God's memorial on
earth to point people upward. You stand as a towering
testimony of God's love and grace and your existence is an
invitation for others to carry God's glory too.
Pillars are often the last
bastion of a building or structure. When through the ages of
time the building has succumbed to the wear and tear of
life, the pillars still stands. Pillars have longevity. They
always outlast posts. God made you to shine all of your
days! Be an example from Kindergarten to the Memorial
garden. Draw strength from God within and your life will not
be a flash in the pan. Your life-light will not dim over
time, in fact it will shine brighter as you carry God's
Glory into your world. God's promise to you in Revelation
3:12 is powerful. If you are victorious, if you overcome,
you will be a pillar in His sanctuary! Your destiny reaches
beyond the boundaries of this life into eternity.
You were made to be a pillar
forever! Do not wait to become one in heaven. Be one on
earth already! Allow the Lord to fortify your spirit,
strengthen your character, position you to carry His glory
and influence others to remind them of God's love and grace.
